Went on a scouting assignment tonight at Braemar Arena to watch Edina, Breck, Blake and Benilde girls high school hockey teams play. Evaluating student athletes to see whether they could help us next year at Gustavus. There were several players on the four teams interested in playing college hockey at our level.
Lots of other D-III and D-I coaches were there as well. Breck beat Edina and Benilde skated past Blake.
How cool is this? The Carroll Goalie School (CGS) is pleased to announce that we have partnered with Hockey Giant in Bloomington, Minn. They have a huge selection of gear to choose from and it’s a great place for holiday shopping for the goalies on your list!
Besides having CGS posters up throughout the store, they also have a 2011 Carroll Goalie School jersey on display in the goalie section.
Carroll Goalie School participants get a 10% discount off any goalie equipment purchase. Send an email to steve@carrollgs.com to learn more.
I am now in my 12th year as the goalie coach for the Gustavus women’s hockey team. We recently completed tryouts and are preparing for our season opener, which is Friday, Nov. 4, when Concordia-Wisconsin comes to St. Peter.
Gustavus Adolphus College is celebrating its 150th anniversary. They have added all sorts of new photos around the Lund Center Athletic Complex, which houses the school’s ice arena. It looks really impressive.
The new season begins on Oct. 15, for the Gustavus women’s hockey team. We are having tryouts at All-Seasons Arena in Mankato before our on-campus arena is ready next week. It’s always fun to go back to Mankato because that is where I played my college hockey.
The Gustavus won the MIAC playoff championship last year and advanced to the NCAA Final Four. I am entering my 12th year as the team’s goalie coach. Our first game is Nov. 4, when we host Concordia-Wisconsin.
Busy helping with tryouts in Hudson, Wisconsin this weekend. I am ranking the goalies at the bantam, peewee and squirt levels.
I always enjoy helping and learning how other associations handle the tryout process. We will be leading the Woodbury squirt/U10 tryouts later this week.
It’s tryout time! An emotional time for goalies and parents. This weekend, I helped evaluate the goalies in the Edina Hockey Association. They ran their skill sessions at the Goalcrease. I was one of three evaluators who helped rank the peewees, bantams and U12 goalies.
More associations begin their tryouts this week and our staff will be out helping evaluate the goalies in a number hockey associations.
Just got back from Moorhead, Minn., and the USA Hockey Level 4 Coaching Clinic. I was invited to give an hour long presentation on best ways to coach goalies. More than 75 youth hockey coaches were at the clinic.
Other featured speakers included coaches from the NCAA National Champions at University of Minnesota-Duluth, USA Hockey’s National staff from Colorado Springs, Minnesota boys high school hockey teams and representatives from various Minnesota Hockey programs.
The clinic was held at the Moorhead Youth Hockey Arena, where they have yet to put the ice in their two rinks for the upcoming season.
This past weekend I spent working as the director of Minnesota Hockey’s Dave Peterson Reebok High Performance Goalie Camp. We had more than four dozen goalies – boys and girls in grades 9-12 – at the camp in Blaine.
It was a lot of fun working with this highly-motivated group of athletes who have their sights set on playing hockey after high school.
Another cool aspect of the camp is that I invite coaches from other goalie schools to help with the on-ice training. In all, we had 20 different college and high school goalies coaches work with these goalies throughout the weekend.
It was all about providing our state’s best goalies with an opportunity to learn and listen to our state’s top goalie coaches.
More information about the goalie camp is available on Minnesota Hockey website.
We just completed our first summer camp of the year and it was a huge success! It was sold out with 20 goalies from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. The session was called Focus on Fundamentals and we spent the better part of the weekend working on the key fundamental movements and techniques the goalies need to be successful.
Our goalie camp is sponsored by Brian’s goalie equipment and every goalie received a free hat and souvenir poster.
Another cool thing about the weekend was a reporter from the Richfield Patch, a community-specific news and information platform, was there to take pictures and write an article.
You can read the story and see pictures from camp here.
We have more weekend sessions scheduled for August and September. Register today at www.carrollgs.com for best selection.
